1) The NHS Community Hospitals March and Further Bed Closures at Torbay Hospital.
It was noted that Torbay & South Devon GMB had been involved in the Public Consultations, supplied a Question to the CCG Public Meeting at Newton Abbott Racecourse and had made representations against the closure of Community Hospitals to local MPs and the Integrated Care Organisation that all fell on deaf ears.
The consultation itself was a mere paper excersise with the decision made years beforehand in any case to ration NHS services by Mem in Grey Suits in Whitehall.
Rick Heyse and Steve Pocock advised that a Save Paignton Hospital March and Rally is being organised in Paignton on February 25th from 1030 am to 1pm. Guest speakers have been invited and an invite sent to Regional Secretary John Phillips to speak at Rally. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble near Paignton Hospital between 10.30 and 11a.m.
Secretary Paul Raybould informed branch of further cuts to at least 32 beds at Torbay Hospital and a host of services that are being looked at for changes or cuts or Privatising.Watch this space it is an employer under real financial strain due to under funding from The Conservative Government.
2) Donald Trump to attend Mayflower Celebrations in Plymouth.
Clive Burton Equality and LGBT branch officer raised that President Trump will be visiting The Mayflower Celebrations in Plymouth. He stated that he supported Speaker of The House of Commons John Berkow in his banning Mr Trump from addressing Parliament. As a branch we agree and support the Speaker's decision.
We further believe that Plymouth City Council should ban President Trump from the Mayflower Celebrations, as we believe the US President will send out the wrong message about Plymouth and Devon to the world. The most odious pretentious and Far Right President in US History has no place in the West Country. We urge that all like minded people put pressure on the council to ban any such visit.
